Our latest disaster? How about a snapped valley rafter in a 20 year old 5000+ square foot log home outside of Columbus Ohio…
We’ve got the rafters exposed, jacked and supported close to where they should be, and now we’re in the head scratching, mouth open & drooling stage.
Just how does one go about repairing a snapped, structural valley rafter without completely rebuilding the entire roof system? My current course of action seems to be heading toward trimming the jacks on one side in order to slide a piece of 1/4″, 8 foot long plate on one side, and sandwiching the valley rafter with 12″ plates on the opposing side.
Anyone run into a similar problem before?
Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
