b Software suggestions needed.
We are working for a small Renovations company (10 Carpenters) doing mostly Bathrooms and Kitchens in high end market. We need a computer program to help us manage our Projects (e.g. track Building Materials, Sub-Trade Costs, Labour costs, Admin. costs, Inventory of Materials on hand, etc.). We are not very computer literate so need something fairly user friendly. Compatible with ACCPAC for Windows preferably. Has anyone found something that works well? Any info. very much appreciated. Thanks.

Check out the Prolog project management software from Meridian Project Systems at http://www.mps-inc.com - very full featured and I belive will cover the points your mentioned, although there is nothing specific on that site about its compatability with ACCPAC. Hope this helps -- Buck

Your message is a little confusing, the line below your name says you are a software consultant, but in your message you state you are not computer literate???
We are a commercial roofing contractor in southern Ontario with 45 employees in two divisions. I am currently looking at Timberline software, which is targeted at Construction contractors. It is a little pricey $ 11,000 - $ 15,000 approx., depending on which modules you purchase. However it eliminates duplication of all functions. PO's are posted against each job and is poted to AR. Job hours are posted to each job and to payroll. It can be customized to suit the individual company and is user freindly.
We are currently using ACCPAC but find we are entering job tracking functions, job costing, payroll, invoicing etc. several times to track jobs, do accounting functions and payroll. Timberline will eliminate the duplication and allow us to see the reports we need quickly.

Hello -- sorry to be confusing. You are correct, I am an Information Services consultant, but I'm not certain where you see in my message that I stated I'm not computer literate? Although I must admit at times it seems that way!
I do apologize if I wasn't helpful. I suggested Prolog based on your statement that you were currently using ACCPAC and the (incorrect) assumption that you were looking for a project management package to AUGMENT it. We recently assisted a local university in sourcing & selecting software for their design & construction department. Prolog was the best fit for them, since the university maintains a central Accounting function on a separate system that was not subject to change. The Prolog functionality was better than Primavera, the other leading contender, and Prolog has several web-enabled features that our client wanted.
It seems, however, that you are looking for an integrated "all in one" project management and accounting suite. I'm not aware that Timberline provides that, and a recent glance at their website is confusing to me ... they seem only to have a PR announcement that they "intend" to offer full project management software. However, I don't specialize in construction-related software, and it is quite possible that you have better or more recent information about Timberline's functionality than I do! Best wishes on your search --

Buck b. I was replying to the original message from system link. They stated they are a software consultant under the name at the top of the message, but in the body state they are not computer literate. I was only suggesting Timberline as it seems to fit our needs and perhaps a total solution to system link. I'm sure there are Project management only systems, as you have suggested, if that is what they are looking for. We have found that two seperate systems however leads to a lot of duplicate entries into different software, which costs a lot in administrative costs.

Scott -- sorry, my mistake! I'll bet SystemLink mean the "we" to include the employees of the company they're working for. Anyway, you're correct, duplicate data entry is worse than a pain, it also leads to potential error. In the case of my client the university, we sourced a software integration house to help them convert the current interface programs between the construction department's old system and the central accounting software to a new version that will extract the data from Prolog instead. Perhaps SystemLink could do the same thing for its client, eliminating the "entry" part of maintaining double systems.
