I noticed in the latest issue that there was a discussion of work boots here recently. I’m looking for athletic/work socks.
I used to buy some great socks from Sears. They were like most athletic socks, but considerably thicker and came with a 24 month warranty. They came in white or dark and were 100% polyester. Great product! I think they were American made. But now Sears doesn’t sell them (and of course nobody there knows anything about the situation).
Does anybody have any suggestions of where to find extra thick athletic/work socks? I’ve tried WalMart, Target, Sam’s and Sears. They all seem to have the same type of products… not thick enough.
Thanks,
Mike

I found a great place in the Chicago area for work socks. It's called Manny's and has high end clothes for men in large and tall sizes. My clodhoppers are size 13 1-2 so normal XL size socks are too small.
Got a bunch of new work socks from Manny's. 100% cotton, real thick for good cushion. Fit size 13-15 so are real comfy.
I second the fox rivers I get em at Costco
You guys wear socks?
That's pitiful man.
Hey Mike Yea the socks are the point of ya or nea for the day. I've been using the champion brand in the 3 pack, seems to be pretty dense. the calf tops are tight so I cut em from the get go.
I perfer Gold Toe brand ...

I've always had a tendancy to get cold feet...too much time outside sliding, skating, winter camping etc as a boy I think...and also have pretty big, narrow feet so boots are hard to fit, so I need thick socks even in the summer to keep boots from sliding around alot.
Doing alot of work this winter (12 hour Saturdays, sub zero temps), on a new house that's only temporarily heated, and also alot of going in and out through snow up to the shop, down the basement etc.
Saw some 85% lambswool socks at Sam's Club, Hamilton brand, that are just medium thickness. ~$4.00a pair. These are the best I've ever had, when worn in combination with a second thicker, outer pair of more traditional wool or cotton boot socks. I think the lambswool is very very good at wicking moisture away from skin and into the second pair.
Last Saturday a combination of 50 degree temps in the house, trips through the snow, and crawling though and fitting PVC in a 36 degree crawl space had my boots wet and my feet like blocks of ice by noon, even with the lambswool. But simply hoisting my feet, (with the lambswool sock on) up next to the space heater during lunch allowed me to put the damp second pair and wet boots back on...and work in comfort all afternoon.
Try 'em. They even are in dark colors so I wear 'em with street shoes to my day job.
