Hi Guys, anybody have any experience with spot finishing polyurethane on floors? Brand new finish, approximately 2 weeks old, minwax semi-gloss hi-build is the product. After the finish was installed (2 coats) we scratched about 3/4″by 12 0r 15″ long. I tried light sanding, then recoating the spots but now they stand out and shine . Please help me. Thanks!

That's typical. Even guys that finish floors all the time, spot patching is usually a guarantee that the patch will show. So you have to decide which one to live with, the scratch or the patch. The poly is a varnish, a finish that reacts and won't remelt into previous layers. The only real way to avoid a witness line or inconsitancy in appearance really is to recoat the entire floor.

Carefully mask along the edges of any/all involved boards. Refinish just those from one end of the room to the other or to the end of any given floorboard.

two coats sounds kind of minimal anyway - just lay on a third coat on the whole thing
