Was at the orange box today and saw this spray-on grout sealer. It says you just spray the tile, it seals the grout, an any that gets on the tile surface evaporates. Anyone else heard of this or used it? Sounds too good to be true (and you know what they say about that…)
A bit of googling seems to indicate that this product has been around for a bit and actually went through a recall:

OK, after some more googling, this product sounds rather nasty. I guess it's back to the old methods...
Darrel, tell me what you found and why it's nasty. I have used it twice, purchased from HD. The smell was wicked and when I went back to get it again I was told it was not being carried anymore (was that the recall?). Then in a few months it was back again. The one large job I used it on (floor) seams to be holding up well. I usually don't get back to jobs to see them once they are done, but this is a regular customer.

Follow the link, it looks like some people had bad reactions to the chemical fumes and had respiratory distress.
the product is the same one that was recalled. I assume the new one is reformulated so it smells worse.I've been reading mixed things about it. those that use it says it works great, but is seems that almost every other person has been rushed to the hospital for respitory problems. So, it's probably a good product, as long as I use a full respirator.

Or you could use normal non-Home Depot sealer without a respirator and get just as good results.

Spray on or are you talking the old method of wiping it on then off?
Go to a tile store and buy a good quality brush-on-wipe-off sealer. Why pay extra for a product that is not superior and is hazardous to use?

Everything I read about this product is that it's a superior product. And nothign could be easier than spraying it.It's just that it's also toxic. ;o)
I've used it a couple of times. It looks, feels, smells, acts just like the stuff that you can get to re-waterproof your camping tent.
And that stuff is silicone. And it works.
Unless you're the lead dog, the view just never changes.
I didn't think it smelled too bad. It worked and it was simple. The can is a down spray and I would use it again. If it's on the shelves now, the recall is complete and the product must be safe.

Are there grouts available that need no sealing?

Epoxy grout.

ok, thanks
While back a buddy had a kitchen done with white grout and when I inquired if the sealer used was a silicon base or not, he'd told me the tilesetter had told him it didn't need a sealer and I'd been wondering ever since.
