My house was built in the late fall of 1992. Between my future familyroom and my bedroom levels are 16″ floor trusses at 24″ on center spaning 24 feet, with an 18″ cant on one end, which looks to be supported with plywood sheets. Our subfloor is 23/32″ sturdi-floor. Every winter, the floor groans and squeaks in the hallway a little, and would go away in the spring. Well, each winter, it gets worse, until this winter. It sounds like it’s alive! My husband thinks it’s spongy, too. We haven’t finished the ceiling in the family room yet. Although he is starting to get the project going. We will be sheetrocking the ceiling for sure, and want to get rid of the squeaky floor forever! I’ve just started looking into this and need help!!!!

Your flooring may be drier during the heating season than the(presumably) more humid other months, and has shrunk a little. Locating the squeaks and screwing the flooring to the floor joists with special screws that have break-off heads are available at lumber yards. The framer may not have glued this section right. Shims above the joists placed from below may help for the short term, but may make the problem worse in the long run.
*Agreed! Control the moisture in your house with a good humidifier. Re-screw the problem area. Force some construcion adhesive into the problem areas before you re-fasten it.blue
