We’ve worn out one of our Stabila plate levels. I remember seeing a rebuild kit for them somewhere…. I think it may have been a trade show. And I remember walking away from it thinking….. I really should pick one of those up since we have two plate levels and they are used constantly.
Well…. of course, I didn’t buy one. And now I need one…. like now. Anybody ever seen one anywhere on the web? I’ve been searching around for about 1/2 hour now and can’t find one. Even my old faithful…. toolpartsdirect.com doesn’t carry them.
I’m pretty sure my tool guy could order one, but on special orders he can take forever. But I guess that may be my only option.
Just thought I’d throw it out there.

Brian,
What is the maintenance kit exactly? We've got two of the levels and both need some work. We've had one of them replaced already.
Can't live without these things and lasers anymore :-)
Ever take off the end cap on the bottom of a plate level? The maintenance kit is all those little pieces. :)
The problem with mine was that it didn't have any tension when it was extended. The upper half would just easily slide in and out of the lower part. I forgot about it yesterday and got a sweet blood blister from it crashing back down on my palm. Anyway, if you take off the end cap you'll see two plastic 'slides'... one on each side of the shaft. Then there's a stiff spring that runs right through the shaft of the sliding part of the level and keeps pressure on those two plastic slides.... that's where the tension comes from when you pull the upper part in and out. Those wear thin over time and eventually just crack and grind up. View Image
Just buy four or five more of the levels, then you'll have a total of five or six. Use sheet metal screws to fix each at your common wall heights. Simple! ;-)
Just a follow up. The kit came with everything you could possibly need as far as the guts of the level go. It took about 5 minutes on the tail gate of my truck and it's like brand new. I have a back up kit in the door pocket of my truck now.
FWIW, There are plastic 'slide' pieces in the level that are supposed to wear out over time instead of the metal on metal wearing out.View Image
Thanks for the heads up Brian. I think I'll order a couple of the kits. Gracias, although, we are starting to use our PLS 5 for plumbing walls because you can easily see the dots and it becomes a "hands free" operation :-)
Hey,
I just called stabila and they sent me a rebuild kit and the end caps that fell off right away, no charge.
Sweet. That's a good company.View Image
