I am planning a new garage for our home and I was wondering were one might find a chart which would show the Steel I beam I would need to replace a wood beam. In other words I think I can gain height by using steel instead of a wood beam across the middle of the garage. The depth of the steel would be less which would give me more height. I do not want to go higher with the garage ceiling because the second floor will be living space. the roof pitch is like a a frame but not as severe. any help out there??
