The footing crossing mid span of my basement floor is called a strip footing. I assume that this is what I have always heard called a grade beam allowing me to frame a wall in the basement to support floor above foregoing steal beams. Am I correct. Also, any opinions on stick framing w/ manufactured I’s as opposed to 2×12. Have been told by some that the labor involved in using I’s outweighs any benefit.

strip footing and grade beams are the same. usually a strip footing sets on compacted subgrade and a grade beams sets on piling or other footings. a grade beam will span two points as two footing like a bridge. while a strip footing is in 100% contact with the bearing surface. But I have notice people interchange the terms. They serve the same purpose.
I thought so, but thanks. Recieved new plans today for new house and appears that the strip footing supports 2x6 wall in basement.

Ive used I joists many a timeand they are no more labor intensive than 2x12. As a matter of fact they may be a less labor seeing as how they can go all the way across the foundation so you're only making 1 cut.
