Have cinder block basement walls, not terribly well done (another story), that need some sort of exterior finish, as paint won’t provide enough of a weather seal (there are many gaps in the mortar). We’ve been assuming stucco would be the solution, possibly pigmented stucco. Don’t want to get into fullblown siding (upper portion of house is Hardiplank). Thought I’d ask around if there are other options. Also, how cold can it be to apply the stucco, if that’s the way we go?

Tina:
Didn't you ask about this situation a few months ago?
See < Obsolete Link > previous thread.
*Yes ... well ... sort of (can I blame it on our altitude....oxygen deprivation? or because I tried to erase all data related to former contractor? or too much time in the Woodshed?). First time around was more about how to fill the holes. Saved your response about the bonding cement. Now wondering more generically about exterior finish. The previous thread died on tuckpointing the holes, with no input on other finishes. Maybe that means the bonding cement is THE solution? I'll look into it. Thanks and apologies redundancies.
*Tina:Didn't mean to seem gruff. Plus, I didn't even fully answer your question - this is bad... Surface bonding cement is one option. It can be colored with powdered dye. Since you mix bonding cement with water, to be safe, I wouldn't apply it until I had at least 48 hours with no freezing temperatures.I don't know anything about stucco.I'm sure other folks will have some other good suggestions.
