Hey everyone
New to this forum.
If any of you could let me know if a subscription to “Fine Homebuilding†would keep my spirits up and inspire me to achieve top class results during my referb of an early 19th century French cottage in the Dordogne dept 24 France.
I am a qualified carpenter (English) and consider myself a jobbing builder capable of many aspects of the building trade. I am however always interested in improving my skills.
I know that I could order a back issue or 2, but I would also like to know how often you yourselves buy “Fine Homebuildingâ€
Will spend some more time browsing the forum and see what you all get up to in an evening/spare time.

In the intrest of cultural exchange, I'll send you a few slightly used copies for whatever the shipping costs me. That'll help you decide.
Matter of fact, I'll even forgive you the shipping costs if you promise to post a large number of photos here of your project as you go along about it. I could learn a lot about your constructions styles over there that way. Some of our most popular threads here have been made of a series of photos of projects as they move through the phases. Mike Smith is now building one in Rhode Island under the caption "Adverse conditions"
another one last year was from a DIY young couple ( KCMarie) self building with the help of the U-buildit company. She had a lot of helop alonmg the way from the pros here.
Caution though - You could end up with some modest good natured heckling from the peanut gallery from time to time. I've even taken a seat there from time to time myself...
;)
BTW, I am not any kind of an official of this site or with Taunton. I'm just me.
Regardless - welcome in

Welcome howler,
I'm a full time carpenter and have every issue clear back to #1 in '81. That's 177 issues or something and counting. I keep them in my office bookcase to reference from time to time along with my code books and trade books. I've learned a lot from FHB and from breaktime. If either were 1 person, I'd have to say "I learned just about as much from him as anybody". I still hate all the adds and subscription cards but they need to turn a profit same as anybody, so I live with them.
I'm not on the payroll either, but I recommend the magizine highly.
Regards,
kcoyner
