I have some questions concerning masonary block
basements.
1.Can a block basement be used when the soil
is clay with out having a leakage problem or
wall shifting.
2.Is block constuction an upgrade or cheaper
to build than poured walls.
3.Advantages vs. disadvantages.

Todd,
There is nothing better than a poured reinforced concrete foundation. Especially if the concerns are soil expansion and potential water problems. Masonary is second to concrete and the cost can vary depending on the design, which can sometimes can make one cheaper than the other. There is also a product called "Rubberwall" that is a sprayed on waterproof coating that carries a 100 year warranty. This also is an additional cost, but when compared to repairing a leaking foundation, it's nothing. Hope this helps, Keith
*Todd, Keith is probably right about the concrete being stronger, but only if properly reinforced. I believe masonry (check the spelling) would be easier to customize if you are going to have different elevations or an unusually cutup design.
*fast3, Your right about versitility with masonry and also I would only refer to reinforcement that is properly designed and installed accordingly and hopefully we all refer to things that way here, but good point. The real problem that I and others have is Websters wouldn't accept "masonary" as "the end result of the act of masonry or the reference to the assemblage of masonries". Just kidding!
