I went over the stone veneer plan with a mason the other day and I told him I wanted the veneer to continue down past the plywood and cover 6 inches of the foudation. He seemed confused as to how to do this. He’s been doing masonty all his life and I wondered why he didn’t have a standard solution.
Any advice? Should there be lathe and a built-up scratch coat attached to the foundation?
Thanks
Darrell

Darrell,
I assume that you're installing lath over the entire house and are wanting to extend it down over the foundation of a house that has the exterior cladding or base flush with the foundation wall.
Because of the irregular pattern of the faux stone over the area, expansion joints would be unsightly.
It can be done, but movement should be a consideration between the two.
Would be easier to strap the wall from the top down over the foundation and then infill between the straps with sm for support and then wire mesh for the scratch coat.

*Couldn't you use bamboo for that?Sorry, Gabe, just having some fun. :) [with you, not at you]Jim
*Have a dear friend who built a round stacklog house about 30 years ago.Had it featured in magazines and newspaper articles, the whole bit.He and his wife loved the house for nearly 20 years. When he decided to sell and move into town, he was lucky to get 75% of it's value because the market for round houses is limited.Would he do it again? You bet he would. Why?Because of what I said above. He and his wife loved it for 20 wonderful years. Not many people build something that they love and get to live in it for that long.Enjoy your home, it looks like a blast.BestGabe
*Gabe,The plywood isn't exactly flush. Its 3/8" proud of the concrete stemwall. Is that metal straps you're suggesting? It seems that would work to prevent expansion cracks. ThanksDarrell
*Darrell, if the plywood is already proud by 3/8", cut it back about 4" and replace with a piece of 3/8 ply. over shims to make it flush with the sheating and wide enough to cover the concrete.Use a stucco galvanized starter strip on the bottom and your off to the races.Gabe
