I’ve searched google and breaktime archives, can’t locate any installation instructions/advice regarding T111 plywood siding:
my application is over existing 6/4 pine board & batten, vertical and variable width 4-6″. Do I need to fur our, tar paper, or install straight over?
Also, in one of the old t111 posts I noticed someone mentioned trim being a spot they noticed in t111 installs. Caulk it?
thanks in advance,
remodeler

Depends on what is already between the pine and the insulation...building paper/felt? Seems like you've got the makings of a pretty good system leaving the board/batten as is and putting the T-111 right over it. You'll get some breathing space there. But if you have no paper already behind the boards, I'd felt over the board and batten and nail the T-111 right up.
BTW, I've done a couple of buildings with T-111 acting as both sheathing and siding without any paper or felt...that's a common application, but probably not advisible in a cold climate.
As far as the trim goes, I've just used caulk tooled with my little finger in the t-111 grooves and it has seemed to hold pretty well over a few years, but probably not a good long-term soluiton. I'd definately use aluminum/steel head flashing if I had it to do over, leaving plenty of space between T-111 edge and the horizontal flashing plane to cut down on wicking.
