A few years ago (3 or 4) I did a bath remodel. The customer wanted a tankless hot water heater so I had the plumber install a Powerstar (made by Bosch)in a utility room next to the bathroom. I get a call yesterday that the unit had a blowout and water was everwhere. Luckily the same plumber was able to go to the home and isolate the tankless unit and hook the bath to the old system supplying the rest of the house. According to him, it appears as through one of the heating cannisters short circuited and blew out the side of the cannister. I have two questions; first, has this happened to anyone else, and secondly if this is a relativly frequent happening I’d be reluctant to put a tankless unit under a cabinet or somewhere that a busted unit could do a lot of water damage.

Is the tankless Electric or Gas? by the sound of it you have an electric. N/G is what I like to install but in the N.E. I hear N/G is not a common fuel? Like here in the west.
