I´m working on some decks made out of Teak, does anybody who had work with teak long time ago does know how to avoid the silverish over time to the wood, maybe some kind of boat product?

I have someone interested in creating a deck from mahogany. Has anyone done this before?

Al,
The best way to avoid the silverish tint is regular maintenance, which is one reason why teak is not used too often for decks, except on boats. You know the other reason already.
A problem is that using spar varnish or other sealing methods usually results in a very slippery finish, especially under snow.

*I've made a couple of Benches and such from teak. Keeping it coated with teak oil will fight off the gray color.pm
*JR,Although mahogany is a great wood for exterior use, I would say it's too soft for a deck. I don't think it will hold up under foot traffic. Ed. Williams
*Most any boat yard will have kits for maintaining teak decks. They usually consist of a cleaner(bleach and t.s.p. will work just as well), a brightener which usually contains oxalic acid, and teak oil. It needs to be done yearly ..... no different than a boat deck except for its location.

Try http://www.austinwholesaledecking.com. Look at the PIE or Ironwood. Looks like a good alternative decking material for high end jobs.
