Steward,
We use Power cleat brand nailers which are hand
operated tools with no air assist. The nailers come
in two styles, tongue nailing and face nailing. The
tongue nailers are used for all but the last boards
closest to the wall. Both tools share the same
fastener, a barbed cleat type nail. The face nailer
leaves a slot shaped hole that blends well with oak
grain. We found that the air assist tools did not
have the driving force required to draw together
today’s crooked solid oak boards. If you are only
installing 1200 if you should consider renting
nailers. Most rental centers rent this brand and
sell the nails. We use four different hardwood subs
that all use this same equipment.

I'll be laying down about 1200 sq ft of 3/4" t&g oak flooring. Any recommendations for a nailer. Preferably air assisted. Thanks
*Stewart,I bought a Stanley/Bostich MIII air stapler 6 months ago and have done 3 jobs with it in that time. I haven't had any misfires or jams yet. This is also the model I used to rent before I bought this one. Hence, I would recomend it.Red dog
*Fellow Dog,For some reason I thought that the Bostitch stapler was for the engineered 3/8" veneered flooring only. Does it also work well on solid wood strip?Mad Dog M.
*MDM, They make two models....One for each purpose. They also have one that drives cleats, which I prefer to staples. They are very good and dependable tools.
*MDM,It came from the factory set up for 3/4" flooring and a replacement base piece for 3/8" material. Red dog

*Stu,We rent the Bostich flooring nailer at a local rent-a-place. They sell the staples too. Don't get the manual one. It will work you to death. The air powered nailer takes all the work out of it.Good luck,Ed. Williams
*Thanks for all the info guys. I'll start looking around for a nailer. I estimate that I'll be putting in about 10,000 nails and thus I really want to use an air nailer.I told my wife if she nailed that much flooring I'de have to keep an arms distance away from her at all times.
