So the adventure has begun…
My wife and I own a building lot in a small town in the mountains north of Scottsdale, AZ. Late last week we met with the architect to turn him on, and hopefully within the year we’ll start building our “dream home”, to which we’ll retire once it’s finished.
I’ve personally done several remodels on my house here in California, and I’m really considering generalling the new one myself (I can hear the collective gasps). There are a couple of contractors in Payson (that’s the town) who like to work as hired site supervisors with the owner doing all the business stuff, so I’m looking into that.
Hopefully, in a couple of years I’ll be kicking back on the deck watching the sun go down over the mountains sipping a margarita.

Best wishes--keep us posted. My brother has bought land to build a house on in the Seattle area with the idea of retiring there. We keep exchanging drawings of his dream house--it may even get built some day!

That sounds a little kinky.
The biggest problem I can see to your plan is the distance between you and the jobsite. Or do you plan to move to the area whuile the house is being built?

I figure the most I'd do from here is possibly the foundation work. Once framing starts I agree I'd need to be there. Also, unless I take out a bridge loan I'll need the money from the sale of this house to build that one, so I'd have to move somewhere...
Sounds like it's an in town lot with utilities in place?
Water can be a big deal to the uninformed, are you?

lived there in that area for 4 years in the early eighties, beautiful place . enjoy the process(you dont need to be told that i have a feeling) goo luck..........." As the spirit wanes, the form appears."
Thanks. We've wanted to build a place of our own for a long time, but living in So Cal makes that nearly impossible. So we're looking forward to it.
Yes, it's inside the town limits with utilities in place. It's in a twenty-lot development, and there are now four homes in place and two under construction. I've attacched a photo of the lot, and of the house now in place next door, to give you an idea of the situation.
I spoke at length with the manager of the town's water department before I bought the lot. I was concerned about impact fees, etc. It turned out that to get approval for the development the developer put in a well, which is hooked into the town's water system and produces more that the development will need. so no impact fees. Cool!
So while I don't know everything yet I will need to know, I'm not totally uninformed. But any suggestions on what else to check on would be welcome.

Forgot the attachments...here they are:
Can you shrink those to about 100k? They're too big for dialup dinosaurs. Irfan is a good program for manipulatying the file size.
