The Camp

theslateman | Posted in Photo Gallery on March 2, 2007 05:46am

I had a thread on a small slate job I was doing in Northern Maine.

I thought some folks might like to see the larger project too.

This album starts with the roofing photos , but there are 40 or so shots of “the camp” in progress.  I’ll take some more when I return on Monday.  Here are a couple to start then a Shutterfly album.

WOW, nice looking place.  Judging by the view of Kineo looks like it might be in the Beaver Cove area?

      Wood Guy ,

If you look at your Delorme map look for "The toe of the Boot". Just below there look for Socatean Point.

What an incredible view from the lifts on that job.

OK, so I just guessed the exact opposite end of the lake!  I've snomobiled all around and across the lake and my friends have a camp close to Greenville, but I guess my sense of direction is off.

I'm surprised that such an expensive (and nice!) place is being built in Maine.  "This is a process, not an event."--Sphere

This place is complete with a large paved runway about 3  miles away from the site. It's more project than I've ever been involved with,by a factor of ten.

I'll have more pictures when I finish up on Monday.  Walter

there are a lot of well to do people who like to get away from it all, for sure. We worked on a project that, as far as I know, is generally only accessed by small plane in the middle of the woods. pretty crazy!-------------------------------------

Looks like a nice spot to work... Looks like you need some warm weather to melt that snow though.

It's a magnificent location, but quite remote.

We're getting another 12" to 18" today. Ice doesn't usually leave that lake until May.

Walter, WOW! "But to be honest some folks here have been pushing the envelope quite a bit with their unnecessary use if swear words. They just put a character in to replace a letter. But everyone knows what they're saying." Sancho

          Snort,

Do you know of Bay 10 down in your neck of the woods? I think they were the outfit that started this construction.

My jaw was hanging low for the first day and a half. Couldn't believe the manpower and equiptment on site to construct one home.

            Wow!

Thanks for sharing those pics.     I've driven that road to the Pittston Farm and the Golden Road, but never in around that point.

Did you ever look something up in DeLorme that wasn't on the edge of a page or split between two?  :)

I've driven the Golden Road and stayed at Pittston and never saw any structure like that.  I love the way some people loosely toss around the term "camp".

          3. theslateman | Mar 03, 2007 03:45am | #17

Yup, I don't know who ever gets the middle of the page to peruse!

Quite pretty up there- I don't go often enough.

Walter, I've never heard of Bay 10, developers?... but I have been to Moosehead Lake...you were lucky. So, is it a big lodge with rooms, cabins, or what? Those pics of a kitchen look like residential, not restaurant. The beam work is something else, they really seemed to mix it up nicely.Great pics, thanks for taking the time to post them.Oh wait, I saw you said it's a home...holy moley. Outside of the gates the trucks were unloadin',
The weather was hot, a-nearly 90 degrees.
The man standin' next to me, his head was exploding,
Well, I was prayin' the pieces wouldn't fall on me.

So how do you work on a roof covered in snow?  Skis?

        1. theslateman | Mar 02, 2007 11:59pm | #10

I don't know if you opened the Shutterfly album in the OP, but it showed the tented in area I was working on in addition to quite a few of the interior in progress.

This job was snow free for my work, but there are times when you might have to remove snow to access the work area.

Looks as if close-fit stone is the rage in ME.  Is that work by the same guy as had his fireplace work shown in the recent FH, on the rear page?

    1. theslateman | Mar 02, 2007 08:55pm | #4

      Gene,

You're absolutely correct!  Am I supposed to provide some milkbones now?

Incredible timber and stone work there.  That project must have taken years.  Thanks for the pictures.

      Zak,

You're right- lots of hours spent there by lots and lots of folks!

Glad you took the time to go thru the album.   Walter

    Rob,

Since you were my source of info before I went up to Moosehead I wanted to be sure you got to see the inside shots.  If you have looked already, forgive the intrusion.

    Walter

    p. s.  Going back up in the morning to finish up.

      Thanks Walter,

Sometimes threads get burried or missed. Great photos. I'll run my boat up there ths spring. I never get much past Rockwood because my wife is normally complaining that I'm going to fast.

Thanks again for looking me up. FYI they got some more snow up there, 14 or so. Warm weather came thru Sat but it will be cold,,,, outside. I guess you won't need to bring your woolies. :-)

      Rob
