does anyone know a way to thicken latex paint so that it will fill countersunk nailholes when applied with a brush? I’ve build a coffered ceiling and have a number of nailholes to fill. I was going to try adding Savogran’s level best to the paint. It is a wood filler when mixed with water. Also, does anyone know a recipe for Swedish Putty? Thanks to anyone that responds.

mmmmmmm, Paint mixed with joint compound will fill nails and other things. I use it for a texture and to hyde sand paper marks. Depends on how bad these nails are you are talking about . It wont fill a raw drywall nail, but it will fill finish nails used to hang pictures. Ive used calking to repair a few nails on a ceiling , then paint over later on .

It took me a few minutes to figure out whether this was a joke or not.
Deal with the nail holes by using non-shrinking spackling, spread with a flexible putty knife. It dries in twenty minutes to an hour. A light sanding will make it disappear, texture wise. Then do your painting.
O.K. this is kinda weird. I have been working on my library all winter. Just finished the painting stage of the casework and had left a small container of paint and an artists brush sitting next to the computer.. After about a day I mixed the semi/hard paint with the brush and started to touch up the finish nails. The toothpaste consistancy of the paint worked great!

The nails were already filled and sanded before painting, but because I used a high gloss paint you could still see some of them. I stumbled on this because I was posting instead of painting.

Does this mean I don't have to sand anymore?
