Thimble vents in wood siding
Has anyone ever heard of thimble vents for wood siding? I am going to blow in cellulose insulation in the walls of a 100 year old house with wood siding. A contractor said I need to have thimble vents in my wood siding to help remove water vapors otherwise he said the paint failure I have experienced would be greater than it is now. I have looked on the internet & have yet to find thimble vents for wood siding. My questions is has anyone ever heard of these, do they work & where would I get them?

Are you talking about round aluminum vents that go in a drilled hole? I have seen these in siding before--obviously placed to try to solve the problem you describe.
They don't do a thing when painted shut!
They're sold at most big box stores and hardware stores in a variety of sizes from little 1" to 4" round units.
Look up 'rain screen wall' in the search function to learn more about what you're trying to prevent with venting.
You could possibly remove the bottom course of siding and install a strip vent like cor-a-vent that could get some circulation into the cavity without re-doing a lot...
I'm sure others will come along with more fixes and info for you.
no the guy was talking lik.e they are small vents that slid in between the siding boards.
Oh I just ripped some siding out with those things
stuck in it.
They are like an inch or so wide, and go under the bottom edge of each course. So yes I've seen them, but no I don't know anything else about them.
