First of all I would like to say I have no business relationship with this company. I happened to stumble across this at a technology show the other day.
I am so impressed by this that I thought I would share it with you. I don’t know if anybody has seen this before.
This is a company from Finland called Marioff (www.hi-fog.com). They make a fire suppression system that does not damage the contents of the building.
This is completely different than other approaches that kill fires (and trapped occupants) by filling the room with an inert gas.
As I understand it, this technology sprays a mist of atomized water into one end of the room and sucks it out the other. The mist is so fine it does not wet anything, but it attracts both the smoke particles and the radiation from the fire and chokes it off.
There are no toxic side effects for occupants or acidic damage to the contents.
It looks like they are doing most of their business in museums, historic sites and computer data centers. I figure, if the price is right, it would be a great residential solution. Even though many jurisdictions are mandating sprinklers, people are slow to adopt what they think will destroy their property, even if it saves their life. This should convince more people to install a solution.
Anyway, I thought I’d share this.

You know you couldn't have posted that at a better time. I'm putting together spec's for a residential fire suppresion system for one of my classes. That will definately come in handy and just might fit the bill. Thanks - Nick
Thanks - Always great to hear about some new technology.
