Some masons in our area have been using a three-coat stucco finish system over wood frame construction as follows:
– Brown coat with fibers added
– Scratch coat with fibers added
– Dryvit (or other proprietary)
acrylic finish coat
… with excellent results. Anyone else been experimenting with this combination?

We have used this type of stucco system for quite some time. We recently were introduced to Grailcoat, a one coat polymerized cement based stucco product that can be applied to any substrate (almost) then painted with the elastomeric paint (the base of the dryvit type finshes) for a super durable finish. We have used this as a non-skid finish on concrete floors, as well as waterproofing of roof decks, and stucco directly to OSB. Check out their website at http://www.grailcoat.com The stuff seems expensive, but we have figured out that for our own projects, we can install it around $2.00 per SF material and labor cost....If we were to install for someone else, we figure that at $4.00 we are still 2-3 bucks less than the stucco guys.
