I’ll start by saying I tried to post this question yesturday and I can’t find it today. If it was answered, I apologize for repeating it.
I’m adding an exterior light on a remodel I’m working on. I pulled power from where the original light was before the addition to the new switch then to the light. Now when I switch the breaker on, the light comes on. When I try to turn the light switch off, it blows the breaker. Now I am not an electrician, so when it comes to electrical, I don’t know to much. But I do know that turning off a light switch should turn the light off, not blow a breaker.
Any suggestions anyone?

Stick with carpentry Ha Ha JUst funnin Hey open up the light switch and disconect all wires and start over again. Use that little tester thingy with the light on it, you know the one with 2 leads on it . Then check ground-nutral- and hot. Hot comes to the ltsw. and goes to the Lt. Then if thats not the total problem You may have to go to the lt and disconect it and start over there also. If power comes to that box then send it to the lt sw on the black/hot wire and return it to the light box and fixture on the white wire and mark it hot with blk tape in the sw box and the Light bx.

I had a heck of a time finding it too. I think it was titled "Blowing Breaker"
Good Luck
I used to go track down lost threads like this, then one day the question occurred to me, if he can't find the first thread, is there any reason to believe he'll find this one to read the answer? :)
Good point.
The question was~ "When I try to turn the light switch off, it blows the breaker." Perhaps the switch is upside down.
Perhaps the switch is really defective.
Perhaps this is a three way switch?
In any case, the wiring is probably wrong.

"debris" ends with an "s". The word is not "debree". Why can't people pronounce the English language properly?
