Tile on countertop edge

I’m tiling a counter top.  The edge of the counter top will have 90 degree V-Cap tile on it. The supstrate is 3/4″ exterior plywood. I plan to put HardieBacker on the top.  Should I put a strip of HardieBacker on the edge too?

    not necessary ...

    but can't hurt.

    when I do ...

    I use pl premium and and predrill for the screws.

    or ... shoot some finish staples thru it.
