We are going to enclose a concrete floored breezeway between our house and garage. Concrete has been there for 30 years and surface is sound, but there are a few cracks, more than hairline, but still too tight to get a knife blade into them. There is no evident movement with wet/dry seasons of hot/cold. Plan is to put tile on the floor. Constraint is that we can’t add much thickness (total of maybe 3/4 inch) so that doors can still open.
Rather than just put tiles in thinset on the concrete, I was wondering if it would be a good idea to stick down a layer of thin cement board with thinset first to reinforce the surface and hopefully keep the cracks from showing up in the tiles.
Any ideas?
