Here's a (probably dumb) question:
I would like a different tile on our tub deck which is thickset 2x2 ceramic tile. Is it possible (assuming I can work out the cutting details) to place the new tile (probably slate or limestone) over the old tile? What would I use as an adhesive? The existing tile is in good shape and very solid.
If this won't work, how would I go about chiseling out the old tile? Or should I just live with it.
*Tile over tile is possible, but I never recommend it to my clients. I've never seen a job that lasted over the long haul.
*I've not been asked to tile over for a client yet so my experience is with my own bathroom. I used a two-part epoxy thinset to lay new floor tile over the old and grouted with latex admixture in sanded grout. Old tile was set in 1954, my new tile was installed in 1987. No problems at all.Ralph

*I install tile over tile occasionally. Do not use organic mastic in this application. Depending on the surface and type of existing tile you may not have to use an epoxy thinset. Are your 2" tiles glazed ceramic or porcelain?joe
*The tiles are glazed ceramic.
*Probably would use an epoxy thinset for this application. Check with thinset maker to confirm suitability. Good luck.joe
