I’ve recently remodeled my kitchen and installed Decora switches and outlets but I wanted to use Tile switchplates and covers to match the backsplash, however, they do not set flush with either the switch or outlet. Has anyone had this same problem? Is there a way to correct it?
Thanks, David

David, if I understand your question correctly, you probably need to get electrical box extensions to extend the box out. They come in different sizes, HD has them.
*It's either as Jim said or the ceramic plate is warped just enough to not seat correctly. In that case, you'll have to "trim" the drywall to make it look like the plate is seated.
*Jim, I don't think you understood my problem! The switch and outlet face plate covers are made of stone (travertine to be exact) and the backsplash is the same material. The Decora switches and outlets set flush with the backsplash but the switches and outlets do not set flush with the switch and outlet face plate covers. The Decora switch and outlet is only about 1/8" deep from the mounting bracket, whereas the tile face plates openings are 3/16" deep or better. There needs to be a thicker Decora switch and outlet so they can set flush to the face of the tile face plate. Do you have any more thoughts? Thanks, David

*Okay, I think I understand now. The whole problem is your coverplates are too thick. Being that the coverplate is made out of travertine it has to be thicker than typical. Decora should not be used with thick coverplates. Either change out the Decora or go with a thinner coverplate, it won't work as it is now. Get an artist to paint a faux finish travertine on stock coverplates. You'd be surprised. Or, put those plates on a smooth surface, face down, and start sanding/grinding/shaving until they will work. Now apply a stiffner to the back so the thin stone plates don't crumble in your hand.
