Hi
I have a little Arts and Crafts Bungalow- and I would like to face the brick in the fireplace with glazed tile- can anyone steer me toward a good reference book or site? What do I have to do to make this a good looking and lasting project?
Thanks

Ben,
Check out Motawi.com which specializes in Arts and Crafts tiles. Search Amazon.com for Arts and Crafts or Bungalow - you'll find many good books with period fireplace photos.
For it to look right, use tile with a mat finish - no gloss at all. Use darker grout than you think you need. A simple way to finish off (cover) the tile around the firebox is to buy some sheet copper (16oz) and fabricate a simple surround. You'll see examples of this copper surround on most Greene and Greene home fireplaces that are usually featured in most bungalow books.
Depending on the existing brick (is it painted? are the joints deeply raked?), you can either tile directly over with thin-set or you can first thinset+screw a concrete backer board over the area to be tiled as a substrate.
Also, it may be helpful to make a scaled drawing of the tile pattern you desire (after you buy the tile). This will help you decide how to best arrange the tile (so that it is centered and avoids small tiles).
*Thanks for your reponse- already checked out Motawi- good resourse- now can you explain the copper around the firebox again?? Thx
