Hi everyone. I’ve enjoyed reading countless posts and now find myself with a question. Has anyone ever tiled over old hardwood flooring? I had planned on putting 1/2″ durock over the flooring but I wondered if the seasonal changes could cause problems down the road. Should I just rip the old floor out (not what I really want to do)?
Also, I read another post where someone glued the cement board down. I’ve always used thinset and screws. Is something like PL Premium and screws better? Thanks for any help.

1/2" Durock over hdwd flooring is just fine. If the new tiled floor is likely to have water spilled on it then it might be wise to isolate the hdwd subfloor from the moisture with a rubberized membrane directly under the Durock. Also you want to make sure your thinset mortar and grout have a latex component that allows for flexibility.
Someone, pleeees pull the stake from my chest. Tile over HWF, tell me it aint so.
