Hey Guys,
Over here in NY trying to survive. was offered a deck job from a client which I am grateful for with the construction shut down and all. (Yes, will be doing it myself).
Not being a “deck builder” but quite capable. I have a roughly 500 sq ft deck to build. (roughly 16″ off the ground).
Pt framing and Timbertech deck boards. Pretty basic other than built in benches and planter box.
Im not so much concerned with how much I am going to make as opposed to not “over charging” them, because i’m glad to be able to work and don’t want to price myself out of a good thing. After going over my numbers I arrived at $30 per sq ft. (15,000)
Can any of you deck builders out there let me know if I am in the “ballpark” at 30 sq ft for a composite deck in the NY area? I do not have experience bidding decks. Really need this right now so don’t want to blow it if that makes sense. The last couple months have been brutal!!!
Would really appreciate it

Mick,
I build a lot of Timber tech, the boards can vary from $38 to $129 each so make sure what board the client selected is priced accordingly. I just finished a 300 sq.ft.deck about 24'' above grade, hidden fasteners, the boards were 20' long and $110.00 each, I charged $18,000.00 for it. Structure was 2x10" PT w/3.5 x 9" exterior glu lambs and 18 x 18 x 18'' footings
$30.00 per sq.ft. is a good price, our typical deck is $48 to $60 a square foot.
Thanks pal. Much appreciated. A builder I know out west says he charges $35 sq ft and than a per footing charge. Thanks for your input. I feel better about my price not being to high, which I was concerned about. Plus I want to do them right for offering to help me out during a difficult time. Do you mind me asking where you are located? Just curious.
Question for ya. The deck will extend 18" out from house and there is an old concrete patio that extends 16" out from the house that I will be covering. I was thinking of setting footings out past the end of the concrete and running one long joist. Is that doable? Do 2x10's or 12's come that long as LVL types orsomething that would support a span like that?
Mick, I’m guessing you mean 16’ and not 16”. I’m in northern Arizona, our building department would make us install a midpoint beam on that span even with 2x12”.
Yes, 16ft. ;)
Any suggestions on the "footings" over the concrete? Should I just 6x6 bracket post brackets right to the concrete patio?
