going to be putting cedar on a screen porch gable roof (approx. 3.5 sq.). Heard conflicting theories about treatment. Some say cedar doesn’t need anything, that it’s naturally rot resistant & others say you have to treat it. What are your thoughts? If it does need to be treated, which is better, dipping or brushing after cedar is installed? Also, homeowners wife says she likes the moss & algae look that is on it now; problem is cedar is all curled up. Appreciate any advice.

I, personally, prefer to treat cedar, all things equal. I can't depend that the cedar I'm getting has enough of the natural treatment left in it. Why not be safe and put a coat on?
