I have to buy a new tool belt for general construction. There are many out there, and at all price levels. I’d be happy to hear people’s views on them.

Not an expert on the different brands, but..........
I will give a very positive vote for Boulder Bags nailbags.
Had a short thread about them not so long ago.
You can read it here.

I got the "nailers" 12 yrs. ago..wear it almost everyday..replaced the big Speedsquare pouch for a leather tape holder, and added a swivel hammer hook..removeable velcro pouches are handy if ya swap trades a lot, keep em full of cable staples or fin. nails and rip em off when yer framing..or fill em with gun nail clips.
I use a big safty pin..to keep the bags on the belt where I like them..not full front, and not full side..never wear a hammer in the back..if ya fall backwards and the handle hits the ground before yer butt, you get a hammer head in the spine..

I just got the Occidental leather barrel bag but have not used it yet. I really like everything about it so far. It is comfortable but have not put the full load in it yet. I have a brand new Makita that just seems too big for me. I am sure I would have to turn sideways to go through most doors less than 3/0. I am not that wide on my own, just 36" waist.
I've had the Occidental lights for about 8 yrs now and love them. mainly because the cordura material dries out over night and they are "light". :-)

Another vote here for the green Occidental Leather bags. I didn't buy a set, I mixed and matched and came up with the right combo for me. Tough as all get out. I've only had mine for about a year and I'm still not convinced that they are as broken in as they will end up being. Did I mention how tough they are? A year and not even a frayed edge anywhere to be found. I've heard of guys wearing these bags 10-15 yrs without any problems. I didn't even know they'd been around that long.
I used to go through a set of $100 bags a year. If I get five out of the Occi's I'll still be ahead in my book.
Occidental Pro Framer for me. Mine are totally broken in, and they wrap around my body in just the right way. Everything falls naturally to hand. I think they will wear forever.

Got to <bestbelt.com> and drool.
I love my Occidental Leather bags. Have been wearing them for eight years. It's a mixed set - a green bag, a black bag and the back bag (the attic) is from a ProLevel (sucks) set. There are a lot of bags and knockoff bags out there.
I think they make the best bags around. I have two sets - the green cordura and an old leather set that I got second hand.
Did a test of the leather ones for two months. Went back to the green bags. The leather had gotten a bit floppy in places while the greens pouches keep their shape. It's important that your hand drop to the tool and draw it in one stroke. You don't want the bags fighting you.
If you frame in the rain (NorthWet), I doubt you want leather. You want drain holes.
Broke down and bought the harness for the bags last year. Broke is the word. About $70. Worth it. Such an improvement from the cloth suspenders!
I wear the bags below my belt, gunslinger style. That way, my pants stay up and I don't excite/offend/outrage the folks around me. For a size 40-41, that's an XXL belt.
