I know this will vary greatly by locale…….what is involved in installing an underground service connection?
depth and lining of trench?
conduit?
wire size in relativity to a residential service based on amps and distance and termination details at either end.
I can imagine some of the down sides of overhead……..I am not opposed to the look of it at all, please chime in on other considerations and cost v underground.
I am in eastern NY if it helps.
Thanks so much for your thoughts,
Eric

if you talking about the main, the local power company did mine for $300 extra, trench a line and added underground burial wire. No conduit.
The best employee you can have but you wouldn't want him as a neighbor " He the shifty type"
Same here, but they charged $350.-, for 123'.
Call your electric service company and they will send an engineer out to look things over. Follow with a call to be sure he turned the order in.
We didn't and two months later, after much complaining, they sent another engineer because the first one forgot to write an order.
Then they will schedule your work with another subcontracting company that does the real work, at least here.
They will want to be sure you know where you are going or have service connections ready for them on the other end.
SoCal Edison let me dig the 3' deep trench and lay the Sch80 PVC pipe with an approved pull rope right into my new service and up to the base of their pole. Then they came out pulled new service (installed new pole too)

hi,
if Niagara Mohawk is your utility the following link should help
good luck

firebird... here in RI.. service entrance is by the Homeowner...
underground typically costs about $1500 including trenching , conduit ( a 2" and two 1" ).... and hookup to panel..
direct burial used to be used also , but it is out of favor
the utility connects to the drop at the top of their pole.. or to the underground standards if you're in a subdivision that has underground electric..
i always try to talk my cutomers into underground
