Laying new vinyl flooring in bathroom. Pulled out carpet and what remained of old vinyl. I’ve got all the loose stuff off but still kinda lumpy in places where bits of the old vinyl was welded to subfloor.
Time was 1/4″ luan was reccomended substrate under sheet vinyl, but I think I remember someone here saying that’s no longer the stuff.
Two questions:
1. What to use for underlayment?
2. I probably need to trowel on an underlayment adhesive to span the hills and valleys in the subfloor. Max depth difference between high and low spots is no more than 1/8″…probably less than 1/16″ in 90% of area. What would you use…thinset? mastic? Playdoh?

If the sub-floor is sound, you can pour on some Leinweber's Liquid Latex. It will level it out and provide a tenacious bond.
