Unfinished flush mount heat register installation on a pre-finished flooring
Hello,
I am trying to install this flush mount heat register on a pre-finished flooring. See the photo attached.
My question is what is the best method to install this? I am worried that the my lines will not be straight if I plunge cut it with a circular saw or use an oscillating saw.
Also the vents are thicker than the 0.75 inch hardwood flooring I have. How can I sand and finish it to match to my current pre-finished flooring without damaging the flooring around it?
Any help will be greatly appreciated Thanks,

Use a Straight edge that the oscillating multi tool can rest against. Install the straight edge on the 'keeper side' of the cut. You could kneel on the straight edge to hold it in place. Another option is to make a template that has a cutout the size of the register. Making the template on a router table should make for an exact fit. You could also make the template out of 4 straight boards. Butt the boards to the register to get the exact size and join them with glue, pocket screws, biscuits, or whatever. Then use a router with a patterning bit to cut the flooring and then just square the corners.
To get the color contact the flooring manufacturer and ask the stain color and sheen. To 'fix' the thickness problem you could use the router shave down the subfloor.
Get some offset tin snips and shear it off. Or put some thick masking tape down on the floor right up next to the metal, then beat the metal over folding it down flat against the wood.
