Has anyone had experience with Empire Today for flooring?
Specifically hardwood and tile flooring.
We had a meeting with their sales person last Saturday. He was rather helpful in choosing the material. We have no basis on which to judge the quote. The project would consist of 385 SF of hardwood and a miniscule 30 SF of tile.
Off-putting was the fact that we would have to put forth a deposit BEFORE we would get to see the Terms & Conditions in the contract. They (Empire) will not provide a copy of the contract until then.
That aside for a moment, can anyone offer feedback on:
– The material quality?
– Their installation crew (which are not Empire employees)?
– Their resolution of any deficiencies encountered?
I feel their practice is suspect. Not providing a sample contract before signing down payment is squirrelly. Being unable or unwilling to provide references turns me off. Online reviews are predominately negative, but I realize that generally unsatisfied customers are more inclined to post reviews while satisfied customers not so much.
I would suspect National Floors Direct have a similar mode of operating.
Any recommendations in the New England are?

Tell them if they won't provide contract they are in violation of California law and you will submit a claiim to the California State License Board. That might get them to respond favorably.
Then again there are a lot of other flooring contractors in California. Empire has been around for many years but their reputation is a big suspect.
Don't much care about flooring contractors in California - I'm in Connecticut.
