Van Mark 1050 mark 1 metal brake
Anyone ever change the stainless steel V cap that rests in the radius of the bend. This is a 10′ 6″ brake used for doing facia, capping etc. The strip I’m referring to for clarity sake is on the front edge of the lock bar that you pull down to hold the metal and create the radius on, when the bending handle is pulled up. I’ve tried to slide the new one in place but it locks up after about 2 feet. I have cleaned the edge, top and bottom of where the strip is located. Have also oiled said area after cleaning. I am a little amiss of my problem. Wondering if there is another approach.
Anyone who has changed one will know exactly what I’m talking about.
Thanks for any help guys
Gary

I think I've slid mine off and cleaned it up a bit. I'm sure it's replaceable.
Sorry, never owned a VanMark always tapco
Come to think of it, I owned a Tapco...forgive me, I'm old and my brain is mush.
Thanks for the input guys. Half an hour after I posted my question I went back out to the shop and tried plan B. Tap the strip from the front ( pointed portion ) forcing it to spring into the locked position using a dead blow. Worked like a top. Took about a minute. Sometimes the simplest of tasks can be made more difficult by over thinking. Never too old to learn eh fellas LOL
Thanks again
Gary
Glad to be of help! NOT!
Yes, I've done it. I tap them on (hitting the pointed part) with a rubber mallet. Tap the one end on and work your way slowly across the length of the brake. As you found out, sliding it in from the end doesn't work.
