renovating an existing home that has no vapor barrier .insulating the ceiling…..should I cut and fit vapor barrier between existing ceiling joist or not put vapor barrier in at all.. can’t see what installing plastic between the joist would accomplish as vapor would migrate through joists

Paint the ceiling with a vapor barrier rated paint, and seal the tops of the walls with something pourable like roof coating.
