I just had a crew come in a install insulation and a vapor barrier in a small cabin (20 x24) up here near Fairbanks, Alaska. I am just wondering if I would be considered too picky if I called up the boss of the crew and suggest that the job was a bit too sloppy? Some of the seams on the poly have acoustical sealant, some don’t. Most of the rows of staples across the trusses aren’t covered by red tape to seal them and there’s lot’s of other random staple holes around the ceiling and walls. Oh yes, one of the outlets was completely missed in the sealing job as well. Basically, I am wondering just how significant 100 or so staples holes/gaps in the poly are in this area. Should I pay them and just fix it myself? Ignore it as insignificant and put up the ceiling now?

Corvi, I wouldn't worry about covering the staples, but I would have them come back and seal the seams and the outlets.

Thanks. Six degrees of separation, huh.

for stuff that's kind of small and does not require special tools/knowhow I tend to figure that I'm going to care a lot more about getting something like that fixed up 'just right' than some errand boy the GC sends over to fix a mistake.
My experience with auto repair has trained me to do as much as I can myself because I seem to be the one who cares the most.
I know that others will disagree and would have him come back three times to get every staple hole covered up for them.
Just that every one of us has to decide where the point is where they say "that's as good as they're gonna get it and I'll fix the rest".
But then, I'm just super fussy about it when its MY house and I don't assume that many workers will automatically feel the same.
:o)
Up here the insulation and v.b. are one of the most inportant parts of the building process and they always seem to get done by the most inexperienced people. You are doing the right thing by keeping an eye on it.
Sounds like you're gettin done just in the nick of time. You must be getting into negative temps right about now.
