We are installing a direct vent air tight gas fireplace in a bump-out framed into an exterior wall of our new house. I am taking great pains to make sure the house is as tight as possible with a continuous poly vapor barrier. I’m not sure how to deal with the area around the fireplace. Should I insulate and install vapor barrier on the walls inside the bump-out? Would it be better to run the vapor barrier up to the fireplace and tape it off to the edge of the fireplace?
