I just finished stripping down my front door. I think the wood is a light oak which has suffered some water discoloration in spots. I would like to leave it in it’s natural state but enhance the door with some darker stair to hide the discoloration. Do I stain the door and varnish it? Or is there a varnish/stain that I can use? Or, should I use something else? Thank you.

When we refinished our front door, I looked into the stain/varnish combo products and found nothing but bad reviews. Ended up using stain then a marine varnish. I don't know where you are located but on the Gulf Coast, using anything other than a marine varnish is a waste of time. A little lemon oil twice a year is a good rule of thumb.
