I am currently working on what once was a post and beam barn, that was converted to a home in the 30’s. The house has two floors, however the second floor was never finished. The new owners are looking to insulate, dry wall, heat etc.. the entire second floor. Being a post and beam it has a large expansive roof (18′ off the floor 40′ long) with several beams as collar ties. They would like to keep the ceiling vaulted, apply dry wall to the rafters after strapping. The rafters are 2×6 24″ o.c. . My question is do they need to have continuous venting from soffit to peak? Is it best to add strip vents which would cause us to remove the soffits, or will those round canister kind that you can drill a hole and pop in work? Or are they fine without any venting. Any suggestions.
