Well, we just decided to change the water heater from and electric to propane. So…the question comes to venting it. We(I) wanted to use the direct vent sytem where the intake air run is in the same pipe as the exhaust air and run it through the roof since I can’t go through the wall because of a 5′ overhang. Is it still a required double wall with a seperation at the ceiling and roof(making it a third in those areas) along with a 10’/2′ rule for the vent stack above the roof?
Or should I just hire someone to do it for me. I’ve done these before, but never through a ceiling/roof. Never run a direct vent before, so this part is new to me also. Propane line is already run and pressure tested 20lbs for a week.
Thanks for all input in advance. This is the last thing holding me up for our COA

The manufacturer of the water heater may have recommendations for brands of vent pipe. The makers of vent pipe usually have online catalogs and installation diagrams, and you can learn a lot from those. It really just comes down to fitting the parts together and cutting the holes thru the ceiling and roof correctly. You also need to flash correctly at the roof. I'd probably say do it yourself, maybe after a brief conversation with the building inspector who will see the job. They're usually happy to talk to you if you go down to the counter first thing in the morning.
You could also hire a mechanical company to put the vent in. Might be worth getting a price from one just to see what it might cost.
