Vertical 1×4 T&G siding installation on

I am looking for some sense of an industry standard for the installation of 1×4 vertical cedar siding in a remodeling situation. Using stainless steel nails into 1/2″ cdx does anyone remove the sheathing and block the walls or apply 1×2 furring strips over the building paper after the WRB has been installed. This job is in the Pacific NW. Does anyone just blind nail into the 1/2″ cdx.

I don't know about any industry standard here.
I wouldn't remove the sheathing just to install blocking, especially if furring the wall out does not create other issues. I would use 1x4's instead of 1x2's, though, just to have a little meatier strip.
Just nail to the sheathing? It's risky. If it was my own house, I might try it just because I could monitor the situation.
If you did just go into the sheathing, screws would probably be better than nails. Don't know how hard it is to find stainless finish screws, however.
The standard here is rainscreen with vertical then horizontal strips of 3/4" pt. I have also seen builders using a single layer laid at 45 degrees, but I'm not sure if it meets code.
Rainscreen has made stucco and any vertically applied siding a real pain.
like fingersandtoes said, strap vetical over studs, then horizontal, loose the screws ..
