Are you talking about Cedar Impressions?

Yes

Fred, the siding you're talking about is a double 5" 10' panel and goes together as any vinyl siding would. I have not used it yet but it looks likes it will be a hit.But it gets a little pricey at $167 per sq. uninstalled.Vince
*Vince,The Cedar Impressions I'm familiar with come in panels about 40" in length and 14" in height. It consists of 2 courses at 7" exposure. I think I remember hearing about a new horizontal siding from Certainteed that is supposed to mimic cedar shakes, but i haven't seen it yet.Fred,I have installed this siding on several houses and it's the nicest looking vinyl siding product out there. I have used the "Perfections" on all those jobs. While the price is almost 4 times that of Monogram, the look is worth it. You get the look of cedar from the road, with none of the maintenance. Make sure your installer has experience with this siding, as there are different techniques involved that are different than the usual vinyl siding. If you can get an installer that's good with a brake, you can virtually eliminate the need for J-channel, a telltale sign of a vinyl siding job. With 4 piece corners, aluminum trim with integral channel built in, and no channel or J-blocks, you will get a superior looking vinyl job that won't look like a vinyl job.Red dog
*Red Dog, the siding I'm talking about is new .Vince
*Thanks Vince,That's the stuff I heard about. It's odd that they would call that Cedar Impressions also. Seems a little confusing, unless they are discontinuing the other panel style. I hope not, it is a nice product and the seams are not noticable.Red dog
*Red Dog, I found that kind of strange and confusing as well.Maybe they are planning to switch.Vince

Thanks for the information. I checked with Certainteed on their website and was informed that there are four versions of the cedar impressions shingle siding. The length, exposure, vinyl thickness and look vary with the version. Their online sales rep was very helpful. I appreciate your assistance.

Red Dog,
what do you mean by "four piece corners"?
*Ryan,Certainteed/Wolverine make a vinyl, 4 piece outside corner system. The 4 pieces are: 90 degree starter that gets nailed on the corner, which accepts a 3 1/2" or 5" lineal on each side; the aforementioned lineals for each side; and a quarter round insert for between the two adjacent lineals on the corners. This makes for a nice corner detail and looks a lot better than a one-piece cornerpost. A Cedar Impressions job deserves this corner.Red dog
*Fred,I am no fan of vinyl siding, but we did a custom house for an architect-owner last summer that had a combination of regular vinyl, broken up with vertical 6" rough sawn cedar boards framing areas that were filled in with the certainteed vinyl shakes. This turned out to be pretty attractive, definitely the most tolerable way I've seen vinyl applied. I can't do photos from this computer but if anyone's interested, I'll get this posted.MD

Red Dog- Thanks for the info. I would be interested in the photos. Sounds like a nice combination.
*Is it possible/a good idea to use Certainteed's Cedar Impressions with Masonite's Colorloc OSB? Is the latter durable, water resistant and will its finish last?
