Wife wants to put white wainscoting in the powder room. I have seen several different versions of various heights. Is there a general standard as far as how high to cover up to? I was kinda thinking even with the top of the backsplash of the sink. She wants it up to 4 feet.

there is no standard, better to please the wife.
in a dining room, kitchen generally it would be the height of the chair rail, around 40". I,ve done small baths with beadboard and top trim at 60". looks good.
In one of my own baths the wainscoting is at 40 inches until it runs into a pedestal sink then it bumps up to 50" with a shelf across that area. I'll see if I can find a picture
the center line of a light switch is usually around 4 feet so in your case check where the light switch falls and allow to go above or below that, unless you dont mind moving the switch
we typically install at 44" above finished floor
I like it to be high in a powder room. 5' can actually look quite good. Picking some other horizontal line to line up with, like the top of the backsplash or the check rail on your windows, is a good place to start. It leads your eye around the room which makes it feel bigger.
Mock it up with cardboard or drawing on the wall and let her decide.
thanks guys, some good places to start.
I try and go higher than the sink and lower than the light switches. Since my electrician usually sets the light switches at 48" (at the request of the dry wall guy), I cap my wainscotting lower than 48"

Generally in the 40's. Always look for anything that is going to be in the way and plan around it, either move it or adjust the wainscoting height accordingly.
