Wainscoting Panels – White or Taupe?

RBean | Posted in Photo Gallery on May 23, 2007 01:27am

Had our 19 year old son working with us on his first interior reno project…renovating my home office.  Primers on and getting ready for the second coat…opinions…go with the white or taupe on the panels?

    I prefer the white.

The room looks great!! Love the ceiling.

definatly the white but why not a third color? Sounds like a fight I'd be in with my wife again...lol

was thinking the same thing... maybe a darker version of the taupe... and an argument with the DW.

I would go with a little lighter color on your top panel and your taupe as it is on the bottom .

I like the taupe on the walls - white is for people who can't make up their minds - but having more taupe on the panels, then MORE taupe in the carpet and i get tauped out.

How about chocolate on the panels to break up the monotony? I guess you'd have to re-do the trim in buttercream then...

"white is for people who can't make up their minds"

I beg to differ... I try to only paint my place when I'm dating someone, because I realized long ago (after the fabled "burnt orange" fiasco) that I haven't a clue when it comes to room colors.  But, I needed to paint whilst between female entanglements so I wound up going to the paint store, picking a chip with a series of neutral greys and saying "give me a gallon of each, and some ceiling white" and painting every room a different shade of grey ;)PaulB

OK, but if we start dating, we're spending most of the time at my place! I have a lovely little solarium painted terra cotta, aka burnt orange, that goes wonderfully with the navy and sunflower kitchen, burgundy and teal LR, and mango and purple bathroom. I couldn't even bring myself to paint my shop walls white.

You'd be in total body paralysis, then, at what a couple cans of webbing spray can do to a small bathroom. Good gravy, but that was fun!

Think I would taupe the panels, what is the ceiling height in that room?  Nice job by the way.

    White.

Ya gotta like the entertainment here at FHB.com!<!----><!----><!---->

Thanks for all your comments...will pass them on to the young man who did the woodwork...hope he stays with the carpentry stuff...for his first time with the trim and moldings; he did a great job – very proud of him.<!----><!---->

On the paint - I think I have moved into the paralysis by analysis dimension...the rest of the home is taupe w/ white trim w/ hardwood floors...wainscoting in the office only.<!----><!---->

Really like the idea of another shade...hmmm.<!----><!---->

Which one of you is the marriage counselor?<!----><!---->

      Cheers and thanks so much.

Thought I would share this as it seems relevant. As you can see, I went with white and a darker color on top.

    Thanks NoQuarter.

    Nice project!

Appreciate seeing the images...helped with the decision.

I'd like to say 'we' decided but as usual the doe gets last say over this buck so as suggested by some we'll be doing the white.

    Best regards to all,

    RBean
