What is the material or coating used to waterproof a deck? I’ve heard of, but google doesn’t turn up info on products called “Vicor” and “Pebble Tech.”
This is for a Honolulu, second floor deck, with provides access to two apartments. We’re trying to protect the first floor apartments below from current (no pun intended) water damage. Presently the deck is of T&G 2×6 D.Fir, which we intend to remove & replace with two layers of plywood and waterproofing – either with or without a membrane. We must take up the deck to increase the pitch away from the building, and possibly gutter the runoff away from the first floor patio below.

You were probably looking for Vycor in your search, that is a membrane made by W R Grace. The vycor would not be what you want for your project, others will chime in that know far more abou this topic than I do but they'll probably suggest EPMD. Do a search through the archives of posts here, this topic comes up every once in a while.
Could what you're referring to be EPDM? - http://www.epdmcoatings.com/. That looks more like a roofing product. I don't see anything on the web site about using it for a deck - to be walked on.Gary W

I was looking at an old FHB from 2004 this morning and there was an advertisement for a decking product you'll be interested in. I'll post the name of the company after I get home tonight.NCtim
Thanks, I'll look forward to seeing it.Gary W

Hey Gary,
It's in issue number 162 as well as others. Global Decking Systems.

It says it supports exactly what you're trying to accomplish. Good luck.

Check out http://www.dexotex.com. I've used this a number of times in the midwest where I had a second floor deck above a first floor living space. It's non slip, trowel on elastomeric membrane, expands and contracts with temp fluctuations, can be applied on plywood, and comes in many colors.
Dexotex looks pretty good.
Anyone else with experience with their

we use this http://www.spec-net.com.au/press/0405/davco.htm product for our wet areas. It is also suitable for exterior )(UV proof) and is trafficable. Water clean paint on.

I used this in the past for what you are doing

Thanks all for your help,
Including some already mentioned here, I've located a number of coating systems to waterproof a deck. Among them are http://www.dexotex.com/index.php?href=productdetail&id=29, http://www.gacoretail.com/gacodeck.html, http://www.epdmcoatings.com/, http://www.miracote.com/index.php?href=products&query=1023. I'd like to use a complete system from primer coats to a colored top-coat and wall flashing. I'd rather not use, and don't think we need a system with a complete membrane.
Thanks again, I've learned a lot here and at the JLC forum.Gary W

http://www.grailcoat.com may be something you may want to check out. A good slope away from the building is a great idea, also flashing and drip edge.
EPDM, I believe is what you are lookung for. Available in liquid form also. You mix a catalyst with the base coating and pour it on the deck.A large squeegee moves the stuff around. Not exactly self leveling but easy to get a uniform thickness. 1/8" thick should do the job. You need some type of edge form ,even a high bead of caulk will work.
I believe it comes in black or white.I paid $75.00 for a gallon about 5 years ago.About 40 sf of deck, was done in a half hour. You can apply this in any weather, will not dry til the air temperasture reaches a certain degree ( do not recall). It still will be waterproof even if it stays wet for months.
I did this small widows walk in december ,dried to the touch in april. In the meantime the room below was dry as a bone.
