I built a custom multi-level deck with a sunburst railing, bar,hot tub, ect., for a friend in May ’00. When I finished we had a mis-communication on sealing the deck. He told me that he wanted too seal the deck,I told him to wait 2 weeks so the fresh lumber could dry.
he did wait like I suggested. I told him to only seal the railings, spindles, rail posts and other trim pieces.I used “Thompsonised” 5/4×6 decking for the surface, and thought I told him not to seal the decking. He did so seal the decking and as a result the deck boards have a flaking, white scaling color to them now. My question is why this happenned and how to correct the finish.By the way no stain was used on the finish
